PIPLL PMMA Screw & Barrel Solutions
Precision Hardware for Acrylic Extrusion
PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), commonly known as acrylic, is a transparent and thermally sensitive polymer. Stable extrusion requires controlled shear, consistent melting and proper thermal management.
PIPLL screw and barrel assemblies are designed for stable PMMA plasticizing, uniform melt delivery and reliable pressure control. Screw geometry, materials and surface treatment can be matched to the resin grade, output and product requirements.
Gentle Plasticizing: Low-shear melting and optimized compression for thermally sensitive PMMA.
Stable Melt Delivery: Uniform melting and pressure building for consistent extrusion.
Thermal Control: Balanced shear input and residence time to help reduce degradation-related defects.
Wear Resistance: Nitrided steel, bimetallic alloys and other wear-resistant options for different applications.
Custom Design: Screw geometry, L/D, mixing section, metallurgy and barrel configuration can be customized.

For transparent and appearance-critical products, clean material flow, stable melt temperature and controlled residence time are important for optical clarity, color consistency and surface quality.
PMMA extrusion performance depends on more than screw diameter and L/D ratio. Resin grade, moisture content, additives, output, screw speed, temperature and die pressure all affect processing stability.
PIPLL considers these conditions when selecting screw geometry, barrel material and surface treatment. For replacement projects, we can work from original drawings, equipment information or measured dimensions to provide a properly matched solution.
PMMA can absorb moisture. Proper resin drying is important to reduce hydrolytic degradation, silver streaks, bubbles and other surface defects. Drying and processing parameters should follow the specific resin supplier's technical data sheet.
Send us your extruder model, screw diameter and L/D ratio, drawing or dimensions, PMMA grade, target output and operating conditions. PIPLL can review the application and recommend a suitable screw and barrel configuration.
Technical note: PMMA grades and formulations vary. Actual processing settings and hardware service life depend on resin, additives, fillers, output, operating hours and maintenance conditions.
